GRAMMY NOTES

Billie Holiday’s “Lover Man,” Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land” and the Charlie Parker Sextet’s “Ornithology” top the list of new inductees for the Grammy Hall of Fame. Two classical performances were also selected: a 1940 recording titled “Bartok: Contrasts fo Violin, Clarinet and Piano” featuring composer Bela Bartok on piano, Joseph Szigeti on violin and Benny Goodman on clarinet, and a 1955 recording of Beethoven’s piano concertos Nos. 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 with pianist Arthur Schnabel and conductor Malcolm Sargent. Formal induction will take place at the Grammy Awards ceremony Feb. 22 at the Shrine Auditorium. The hall of fame awards were established to honor recordings made before formation of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Science’s annual Grammy awards, which first considered recordings made in 1958.
