TOKYO — Damaged power lines halted or delayed hundreds of high-speed bullet trains today and inconvenienced about 330,000 passengers, railway officials said.
An official said about 1,625 feet of the overhead cable that supplies power to the trains was found loosened, probably damaged by a train that broke seven of its eight trolley arms before coming to a stop near Kobe in western Japan. As a result, 59 trains were canceled and 275 were delayed, some for nearly eight hours, he said.
