Arnold O. Beckman, 88, a Newport Beach resident and founder of Fullerton-based Beckman Instruments Inc., last week received the Presidential Citizens Medal.
Beckman was among about 30 citizens who were presented the award by President Reagan in one of his last acts in office. Beckman was a founder of the Lincoln Club, an influential county Republican organization, and is a strong supporter of Reagan.
Beckman founded Beckman Instruments in 1935. The company, which makes medical diagnostic and research instruments, was bought by SmithKline Corp., a giant Philadelphia-based pharmaceutical company, for $1 billion in 1982.
