Female Surfers

To my knowledge, the only male to give birth to live offspring is the sea horse. This does not affect his ability to swim or otherwise enjoy all the pleasures of the ocean.
Such information gives me cause to wonder why men running the “Winterfest” contest in Laguna Beach feel that females of the human species are unable to compete in surfing competition (“Women Makes Big Waves After Mostly Men Chosen for Surf Contest in Laguna,” Feb. 5).
Since the male surfers have exercised such discriminatory behavior, I shall be rooting for the one woman they allowed to compete (with 24 men), and I hope she walks away with the entire $2,000 in prize money!
