Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stage musical “Cats” now sits atop the list as the most profitable theatrical production in history. The Andrew Lloyd Webber work has posted net North American profits of $44 million, topping the previous leader, “A Chorus Line,” which has netted in excess of $34.2 million. Investment for the New York production, which opened Oct. 7, 1982, was $3.9 million. Daily Variety reports that “Cats” has taken in another $14.5 million from the London and other foreign productions, which puts the worldwide profits at more than $58 million.
