A suit against Dave Winfield by his former live-in lover is scheduled to begin in Houston on April 5, and may cause the New York Yankees outfielder to miss a part of the first week of the season.
Sandra Renfro alleges that Winfield is the father of her 6-year-old daughter. She intends to establish that she is Winfield’s common law wife.
Lawyers for Renfro said the trial will cause Winfield to miss the beginning of the season, according to reports in Thursday’s editions of the New York Daily News and Gannett Westchester newspapers.
