Girls’ Basketball Playoffs : Team Effort Lifts Alemany to 3-A Win Over Pomona
- Share via
The Alemany High girls’ basketball team has two of the area’s best players in guard Sylvia Castaneda and center Andrea Hoffman. But it was the play of six other Indians that led Alemany to a 64-56 victory over visiting Pomona on Thursday night in a Southern Section 3-A Division first-round playoff game.
Anne Sasadeusz scored a career-high 23 points and spearheaded a fullcourt press that forced 20 first-half turnovers to lead Alemany.
In the first half, Sasadeusz, a senior forward, scored 12 points and made four steals as Alemany (18-5 overall) built a 38-27 lead.
And Alemany did it in large part because of the no-name Indians. Castaneda and Hoffman scored only 10 points during Alemany’s run.
Guard DeOundra Naulls scored a game-high 31 points for Pomona (15-9), including 14 points in the fourth quarter.
Castaneda finished with 12 points, five assists and six steals and Hoffman added 10 points and nine rebounds.
