Los Angeles County supervisors passed an ordinance Tuesday empowering law enforcement officials to evict tenants who use their homes to sell drugs.
Mike Antonovich, who introduced the measure, which passed without opposition, called the law “a new and valuable weapon in our war on drug dealers.”
The measure, which took effect immediately, empowers the district attorney’s office and Sheriff’s Department to initiate eviction proceedings against people who sell drugs from rented homes or apartments. Failure by the landlord to follow up on the county’s orders could mean fines of up to $5,000.
