Sophomore Keith Halcovich pitched a three-hit shutout and Hart High pounded out 15 hits Friday to defeat Glendale, 9-0, in the Chaparral baseball tournament in Las Vegas.
The win kept Hart unbeaten heading into the final day of the round-robin tournament. The Indians (7-1) play a doubleheader today against Boulder City, Nev., and Pleasant Grove, Utah.
Hart’s David Toledo had three hits and scored two runs.
Hart Coach Bud Murray said Glendale, 2-1 in the tournament, appeared drained after its upset win over Las Vegas Valley earlier in the day. Valley was 7-0 and ranked 14th in the nation by USA Today.
Hart, which defeated Rowland, 8-0, in its first tournament game, is ranked fifth in the same poll.
In another Chaparral tournament game:
Burroughs 6, Bishop Gorman 5--Burroughs scored all six runs before making an out in the first inning as the Indians also remained unbeaten in two tournament games.
Kevin Guild’s double and a two-run single by Tony Macaughtry keyed the Indians’ first-inning outburst.
Burroughs left-hander Mitch Megas (1-0) scattered eight hits and pitched six innings before the game was stopped because of a time-limit rule.
Anthony Bonfazio paced Bishop’s attack with a pair of doubles.
