Matt Luke, a senior left-handed pitcher for El Dorado High School, said Sunday that he has made a verbal commitment to attend California.
Luke, who also played football and basketball at El Dorado, said he will play only baseball at Cal. Luke was the co-most valuable player in the Empire League in basketball last season, averaging 15.2 points and 13.5 rebounds a game.
Luke, 6-feet-6 and 215 pounds, pitched a no-hitter against Servite March 11 in the Loara tournament. He is 4-1 this season and was 3-0 last season.
“I thought it offered the most opportunities for me,” said Luke, who also considered UCLA and the University of the Pacific. “It seems like the best place for me to go.”
