Female Deacons Opposed

ANNISTON, Ala. — The election of two women as deacons at the First Baptist Church of Williams is causing a furor, with the Calhoun Baptist Assn. asking the church to reconsider its decision.
Association members voted 433 to 225 to disapprove the ordination of Dean Norton and Peggy Hamby. The small Williams church was told to reconsider, and if it doesn’t take appropriate action, it may be ousted.
