A 38-year-old man delivering pizza was struck and killed last week by the car of a Downey police officer on his way to investigate a disturbance at a local bar.
Reyes Robles Soto, employed at Domino’s Pizza on Paramount Boulevard, was taken to the Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital trauma center in Whittier, where he died of head injuries and internal bleeding, Detective Richard Solis said.
Officer Dennis Vrooman was driving north on Lakewood Boulevard at 10:35 p.m. Friday with his car’s amber lights flashing. The police car ran over Soto as he crossed the center divider and walked into Vrooman’s path, Solis said.
Soto had worked part time for Domino’s Pizza about a year, Solis said. Soto took the evening position as a second job for added income to support his wife and three children.
