College Roundup : Chapman Routs UC Irvine, 10-4

Ken Briggs had three hits and scored three runs, and Tony Gardea had two hits with two RBIs to lead Chapman College to a 10-4 victory over UC Irvine in a nonconference baseball game Wednesday at Hart Park in Orange.
Greg Decker had two hits and two RBIs, and Chris Cutliff had three hits and two RBIs for Chapman (19-21). Jeff Petredes (3-3) pitched seven innings for the victory, and Matt Patuano pitched the final two innings. Osmar DeChavez had two hits and two RBIs for UC Irvine (14-26-1).
In nonconference baseball:
The Masters 13, Southern California College 7--Vance Costelo had two hits, including a double, and two RBIs for Southern California College (22-16) at Newhall. Dan Preston was four for five with three doubles for The Masters (14-25-1), which had a six-run fourth inning to break the game open.
In Big West Conference men’s tennis:
UC Irvine 7, Cal State Long Beach 2--Mark Kaplan, ranked 11th in the country, swept Cal State Long Beach’s Pat Crow, 6-2, 6-1, as the visiting Anteaters won their eighth consecutive dual match. Kaplan (28-6) has won 22 of his past 23 matches.
