The Orange County Children’s Theatre will continue its musical salute to American history with four performances of “Yankee Doodle” this weekend at Golden West College.
Written, directed and choreographed by Jerome Curtis of Long Beach, “Yankee Doodle” features 44 children who sing and dance their way through 20 skits depicting great moments and personalities from U.S. history.
With taped music and a slide-show narration, “Yankee Doodle” honors Uncle Sam, Andrew Jackson, Dolly Madison, Paul Revere, Martin Luther King Jr., the advent of the locomotive and the victories of World War II, among others.
The vignettes were written by Curtis, who adapted the script from a play by Aurand Harris.
The 90-minute program, aimed primarily at grade-school children, is one of two shows presented yearly by the Orange County Children’s Theatre, a nonprofit group open to children ages 8 to 18.
“Yankee Doodle” will be performed at 7:30 tonight, 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Golden West College, 15744 Golden West St., Huntington Beach.
Advance tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and children younger than 12. Tickets at the door cost $6 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and children younger than 12. Information: (714) 895-8378.
