A teen-ager charged with setting off three pipe bombs last month in Redondo Beach has pleaded guilty to a single count of possessing explosive materials as part of a plea agreement designed to spare him a prison sentence.
Scott Balcombe, 18, of Redondo Beach pleaded guilty to the felony charge Wednesday in South Bay Municipal Court. He is expected to receive three years’ probation at sentencing May 17 in Torrance Superior Court, said Deputy Dist. Atty. Sue Bourdon.
Seven other charges of possessing and detonating explosives will be dropped if Balcombe successfully completes probation, Bourdon said.
