Bush Says There’s ‘Not a Chance’ He’ll Support Abortions

WASHINGTON — President Bush today told the lawyer who successfully argued the landmark Roe vs. Wade case before the Supreme Court that there is “no chance” he will reverse his position and support the decision that legalized abortion.
He made the remark after signing a proclamation designating May 1 as Law Day in a ceremony attended by, among others, Sarah Weddington, a University of Texas law professor and chairman of the American Bar Assn.’s Law Day subcommittee.
Weddington told Bush: “We in Texas remember when you were for Roe vs. Wade, the decision legalizing abortion. Any chance of your supporting it again?”
“No chance,” Bush shot back.
