The Moorpark College women’s softball team Sunday accomplished what no other women’s team had accomplished in the school’s 21-year history.
With a 1-0 victory over El Camino College, the Lady Raiders won the best-of-three Southern California junior college tournament, becoming the first Moorpark women’s team to reach a state championship tournament. The state tournament is May 19-21 at Golden West College in Huntington Beach. The playoff seeds and pairings will be announced today.
Paula Allen’s two-out single in the second inning scored Julie Myers with the game’s only run and De Dow (27-7) made the score stand up, tossing a one-hitter.
Defensively, Moorpark (35-10) was perfect in the field and Dow set El Camino (29-13) down in order in every inning except the fifth, when Carolyn Pele led off with a single.
“De pitched a marvelous game,” Moorpark Coach Will Thurston said.
Allen, who threw a runner out at the plate to save a 1-0 win Saturday, was two for three Sunday.
