Hershel McGriff drove his Pontiac Grand Prix to victory in the Spears Manufacturing 200 NASCAR stock car race at Bakersfield.
McGriff, of Green Valley, Ariz., traded the lead several times with Canadian Roy Smith before going in front for the final time on the 187th lap when Smith’s Ford Thunderbird spun out.
Smith recovered to finish third. Rick McCray of Highland, Calif., finished second in a Pontiac Grand Prix, 5.5 seconds behind the winner.
