A sheriff’s deputy was shot in the neck late Friday on a Compton street.
Deputy Todd Wallace, 25, was treated and released Saturday from Martin Luther King Jr./Drew Medical Center. Wallace and partner Deputy Robert Lopez, 27, had stopped a car at 11:35 p.m. Friday and were questioning six men inside it when gunfire broke out.
Deputy Chris Wahla said the shots were not fired by the car’s occupants but came instead from a distance in the unincorporated area of Willowbrook. Police detained four suspects for questioning but later released them.
