Diana Needham was elected mayor and Ann B. Joynt vice mayor in the Cerritos City Council’s recent reorganization meeting.
For Needham, who served as the city’s first female mayor in 1980, it will be the third time she has sat in the mayor’s chair. She replaces Barry A. Rabbit, who has served an unprecedented five terms as mayor since he was first elected to the council in 1970.
Needham, who received an urban planning degree from Cal Poly Pomona, works for First City Properties in Beverly Hills.
Joynt, who was elected to the council in 1986, is a former planning commissioner. She is executive director for the United States Academic Decathlon, which is located in Cerritos.
