More than 1,000 types of dangerous chemicals were found in an Oakland laboratory supply warehouse by federal agents. The building was filled with thousands of containers, many of them corroded and haphazardly stacked. A private contractor called to remove the chemicals at the Oakland Research & Laboratory Supplies Co. found no leakage, according to Alameda County health officials. Most of the chemicals were stored in small quantities. Federal drug agents had entered the building to search for records in connection with an investigation of Vincent Gammill, an employee of the supply company, who was recently indicted in U.S. District Court on a charge of conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine, a drug known on the street as speed, according to federal agents.
