SAN FRANCISCO — Steven E. Psinakis, dubbed a hero by several Philippine government officials, was acquitted by a federal jury today of charges that he conspired to transport explosives as part of a 1981 plot to destabilize the Ferdinand E. Marcos regime.
Despite U.S. District Judge Robert H. Schnacke’s admonition against outbursts, several supporters of Psinakis burst into tears and hugged each other as the jurors’ not-guilty verdict was read. Assistant U.S. Atty. Charles B. Burch left the court without commenting. Psinakis said he planned to return to his home in Manila with his wife and children to live a normal life.
