Daily attendance increased by 488 students in the Downey Unified School District during the current academic year, leading to a 1.6% pay raise for teachers, the superintendent and his assistants.
The Board of Education approved the salary increase to be effective June 1. Supt. Edward A. Sussman’s salary was increased from $84,748 a year to $86,104. Deputy Supt. Donna Boose and Assistant Supt. Gary Orsinger got raises to $79,312 and $77,103 a year, respectfully.
Teachers received the 1.6% raise as the result of extra income brought to the district by increased student enrollment.
