Low Turnout in L.A. Election

What an irony! Your front page (June 7) had three stories detailing the Chinese students battling for democracy. Then I turned the page and read about the embarrassing turnout in the Los Angeles election.
Citizens in democratic Los Angeles, U.S.A., almost ignored the voting booths. Overall, almost 90% didn’t bother to cast their ballot. People in China are literally dying for this basic right of democracy. If this continued apathy prevails, the headlines of the future may be about our fight to reinstate democracy here at home!
