A 48-year-old Van Nuys man was killed when he was thrown from a motorcycle on a freeway transition road in Mission Hills, the California Highway Patrol reported Friday.
Bruce Watkins apparently lost control of his motorcycle at 7 p.m. Thursday while riding at high speed on the elevated transition road from the westbound Simi Valley Freeway onto the southbound San Diego Freeway, Officer Dave Grajeda said.
The motorcycle crashed into a retaining wall and Watkins was thrown to the pavement, breaking his neck. He was found dead at the scene by a passing motorist. CHP officers found a helmet near the motorcycle but were unsure whether Watkins had been wearing it.
Grajeda said the accident was still under investigation, but no other vehicles were believed to be involved.
