Dwight Gooden of the New York Mets, bothered by soreness under his right arm pit, was put on the disabled list for the first time because of an injury.
Gooden, 9-4 with a 2.99 earned-run average, is expected to miss only one start. He pitched 2 1/3 innings in the Mets’ 6-2 loss to Cincinnati Saturday. It was the shortest outing of his career.
Gooden was on the disabled list from April 1 to June 5, 1987, while undergoing cocaine rehabilitation.
