The show business trade paper Variety has lent its name to a pilot for a 90-second daily entertainment report that could be used on local TV stations or cable systems. Army Archerd, the Daily Variety columnist who has long hosted the pre-Oscar arrival hoopla, hosted the “Variety” pilot.
