NATION : Beer Cap Lodges in Man’s Throat

BOSTON — A man who opened a beer bottle with his teeth while “watching a tense baseball game” had to undergo emergency surgery when the bubbling brew fired the bottle cap into his throat, doctors reported today.
The 36-year-old man was rushed to Bronx-Lebanon Hospital Center in New York City when the incident occurred, according to a letter published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
“This case highlights the hazard of opening bottles of carbonated drinks with the teeth,” wrote Drs. Karanvir Prakash, Patrick Rosario and Shihan Kim. “We suggest that such drinks be marketed only in cans.”
Surgeons extracted the cap and the man recovered, they said.
