P.M. BRIEFING : Grades Tackle Top Tar Heel Rusher

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Kennard Martin, last season’s leading rusher in the Atlantic Coast Conference, will sit out North Carolina’s 1989 football season because of his problems in the classroom, Tar Heel Coach Mack Brown says.

“Kennard Martin will not play football at the University of North Carolina this season for continued academic inconsistencies,” Brown said in a statement. “He will remain on scholarship this fall, and his status will again be reviewed at the conclusion of the fall semester.”
