Law Requires Fireproofing of New Roofs, Bans Wood

The Glendale City Council has adopted an ordinance requiring that all new roofs in the city be fireproofed.
The ordinance, introduced by Councilman Carl Raggio, amends the city’s Building and Safety Code, banning wooden roofs to prevent fires from spreading across the tops of buildings and homes.
The amendment applies to new or replacement roofs and restricts materials to fiberglass, metal, slate, concrete and asphalt, said Fire Marshal Chris Grey.
The ordinance is not applicable when less than a quarter of the roof is repaired or replaced, he said.
