A Glendale man was stabbed Wednesday while trying to prevent the theft of a relative’s car, police said.
Antonio Rivera, 27, is in serious condition at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena after surgery on a 2-inch knife wound to his left rib cage, Glendale police said.
Police are still seeking the suspect, who fled on foot.
The incident occurred about 2 a.m. in a parking lot outside Rivera’s apartment at 214 1/2 E. Broadway, police said.
Witnesses said they saw Rivera approach a man leaning over the open hood of a car belonging to Rivera’s brother-in-law. Rivera reportedly asked the man what he was doing and the suspect replied that he was interested in buying the automobile.
Police said Rivera and the suspect got into a fistfight before Rivera was stabbed.
