Whirlpool Corp.: The Benton Harbor, Mich.-based maker of appliances posted a second-quarter profit of $50.4 million, a 22% increase over last year’s figures. which included a $5.3-million loss from continuing operations. Revenue was $1.64 billion, up 42%. The company said the bottom-line figure included a $5.3-million loss from a discontinued operation and cited strong performance by its Brazilian affiliates that resulted in a “significant profit contribution.”
