NATION : Bush Son Won’t Run for Governor

DALLAS — George W. Bush, the President’s oldest son, in a surprise announcement said he will not run for governor of Texas in 1990.
Bush, 42, a former oilman and now managing partner of the Texas Rangers baseball team, had traveled the state earlier this year in an apparent attempt to build grass-roots support.
But before a small gathering in Dallas on Tuesday night, he surprised the crowd, expecting to hear about baseball, by talking politics. “Mother said ‘good,’ as she should,” he said of his decision not to run.
