Law enforcement officials on Monday were trying to identify the body of a man who was apparently killed by a hit-and-run driver on a freeway entrance in Garden Grove, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The body was found on the Beach Boulevard entrance to the Garden Grove Freeway at 8:15 p.m. Sunday by a Garden Grove man who told officials that he had run over the body, a CHP spokesman said. The man is not a suspect in the death, the spokesman said.
The dead man, who was believed to be about 25, was so badly injured that he could not be identified. The CHP spokesman said they were trying to develop a composite drawing of the victim for circulation later this week.
The CHP is asking witnesses to the incident to contact the agency’s Westminster office at (714) 892-4426.
No identification was found on the body. Four .32-caliber bullets and house keys were found in his pockets, the CHP spokesman said. Officers also found many rare coins, including buffalo-head nickels and Indian-head pennies, scattered on the roadway around the body.
