INVERSIONS by Scott Kim Freeman: $11.95
Kim executes a series of sprightly calligraphic gymnastics to produce words that can be read backward, upside down, vertically, etc.--the visual equivalent of palindromes. He also plays more elaborate verbal/pictoral games, turning “infinity” into a repeating spiral of letters that can be read from any angle, and M. C. Escher’s name into a complex grid that evokes his popular etchings. Step-by-step instructions for creating additional inversions are included, but it’s unlikely that anyone without a special talent for visualizing mirror images will have much success following them.
