P.M. BRIEFING : Whittaker Coatings Sale Arranged

CLEVELAND — Paint maker Sherwin-Williams Co. has reached agreement in principle to buy the chemical coatings division of Whittaker Corp. of Los Angeles, Sherwin-Williams announced today. Terms were not disclosed.
Sherwin-Williams said the sale hinged on reaching a definitive agreement and was expected to be completed by fall.
The Whittaker Coatings Group includes 10 manufacturing facilities in nine states and research laboratories in Columbus, Ohio, and Colton, Calif. The unit makes coil coatings and highway marking products.
