ON THE SIDELINES : McMahon to Start Against 49ers

LA JOLLA — Newly acquired quarterback Jim McMahon will start San Diego’s exhibition game Wednesday night at San Francisco, Chargers Coach Dan Henning said.
San Diego acquired the eight-year veteran last Friday from the Chicago Bears for a conditional 1990 draft choice. McMahon took the first four snaps of the second half against his former teammates on Saturday in a game the Chargers won 24-7 at Chicago.
While the rest of the Chargers relaxed before Sunday afternoon’s practice, McMahon spent four hours with quarterback Coach Ted Tollner preparing for the San Francisco game.
