P.M. BRIEFING : Toyota to Study U.S. Chip Importing

NAGOYA, Japan — Japan’s top auto maker Toyota Motor Corp. said today that it will send a computer chip procurement mission to the United States this week as part of the company’s import promotion program.
The Nagoya-based company said its mission will visit nine semiconductor manufacturers in the United States between Aug. 26 and Sept. 10 to study procurement possibilities.
The U.S. companies involved are Advanced Micro Devices, Harris, Intel, International Rectifier, Motorola, National Semiconductor, Signetics, Sprague Electric and Texas Instruments.
