Police were seeking a gunman who held up a dry cleaners and several waiting customers Thursday evening and made off with an undetermined amount of cash.
Newport Beach Police Sgt. Les Chapman said the robber walked into Sunny Fresh Cleaners in the 3700 block of Campus Drive about 7 p.m. The bandit waved a weapon that Chapman said was described as an Uzi submachine gun or a handgun.
After the gunman demanded money from the clerk as well as the wallets of several customers who were in the store, he escaped on foot, Chapman said.
Police said the robber was last seen wearing a black hat, bandanna, dark sunglasses and black clothing. He was described as being 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing about 160 pounds, Chapman said.
