A 74-year-old Studio City woman was hospitalized in serious condition Friday after she and her husband were beaten and robbed while walking in their neighborhood, Los Angeles police said.
Helen Heller was being treated at an undisclosed hospital after the Thursday afternoon attack on a sidewalk in the 12800 block of Moorpark Street. Her husband, Lewis Heller, 76, was treated for lesser injuries and released from the hospital after the beating by three men, Detective Ted Ball said.
The Hellers were walking when they were the victims of “an unprovoked attack” by three young men who robbed them of about $15,000 worth of jewelry, Ball said.
Ball said there were no suspects in the case, and there were no indications that the assailants were gang members. He said street robberies and attacks were uncommon in the residential area near Coldwater Canyon Avenue, and it was unknown if Thursday’s incident was related to any other crimes.
