Walk of Fame Star to Honor Carmen Dragon

A star will be placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame today in honor of Carmen Dragon, the late Hollywood arranger and composer who led the Glendale Symphony for nearly two decades.
The star for Dragon, an Academy Award winner, will be unveiled at 12:30 p.m. at 6104 Hollywood Blvd. near Gower Street.
In a career that began in radio in the 1940s, Dragon recorded more than 75 albums, received an Academy Award for his arrangements and adaptation of Jerome Kern’s musical “Cover Girl” and composed or conducted the scores for 30 films. In 1964 he received an Emmy Award for a Christmas spcial by the Glendale Symphony.
He was forced by illness to retire as director of the Glendale Symphony before the beginning of the 1983-1984 season. He died in March, 1984, at age 69.
