TORRANCE — El Camino College used its passing attack and a swarming defense to defeat Orange Coast, 36-17, in the Mission Conference opener for both teams Saturday night at Murdock Stadium.
Orange Coast quarterback Greg Angelovic completed six of his 17 passes for 90 yards and was sacked five times. The Orange Coast offense, which had rolled up more than 400 yards of total offense the week before in a 32-14 victory over Rio Hondo, managed just 203 total yards against El Camino (2-0), the second-ranked team in the state.
Former Newport Harbor receiver Mark Craig was the only bright spot for Orange Coast (1-1), catching four passes for 61 yards.
El Camino quarterback Frank Dolce, a preseason All-American selection, completed 20 of 28 passes for 280 yards and three touchdowns. Flanker David Blakes was Dolce’s favorite target, catching six passes for 116 yards, including a 17-yard TD pass in the second quarter. El Camino’s Kevin Pratt caught four passes for 70 yards, and flanker Shannon Thompson added five receptions for 65 yards.
