A fire caused $50,000 damage to an Arleta house Wednesday and left eight people homeless, the Los Angeles City Fire Department reported.
A woman who tried to fight the flames before firefighters arrived was treated outside the house for a minor burn, Battalion Chief Tom Stires said. The fire started about 4:30 p.m. in the 8800 block of Sparton Avenue and was contained about 15 minutes later, said Jim Wells, Fire Department spokesman. The cause was unknown, Stires said.
Fire officials asked the American Red Cross to provide the house’s occupants with emergency food and shelter, Stires said.
