ON THE TOWN: Talk about an all-star jam session! When Jimmy Wood & the Immortals took the stage at the China Club last weekend, they were joined by tennis stars Mats Wilander and John McEnroe (on guitars), Tatum O’Neal (on tambourine), Pretenders drummer Martin Chambers, Yes keyboardist Tony Kaye and Europe vocalist Joey Tempest. The celeb-rockers tackled noisy versions of “Honky Tonk Woman” and “Jailhouse Rock.” . . . Eric Anderson had a surprise guest at his McCabes gig last weekend: Joni Mitchell. Jokingly describing herself as “semi-retired,” Mitchell harmonized with Anderson on his “Blue River,” then borrowed a guitar and sang a pair of new songs, “Night Ride at Home” and “Cherokee Louise.” . . . And we always expect the unexpected from Bob Dylan. But when the reclusive pop star made a rare live TV appearance last Sunday, it wasn’t--as you’d expect--on the much-ballyhooed Saturday Night Live anniversary show. Instead, Dylan shared the stage with interlocutor Jan Murray on the always-colorful Chabad Telethon, which aired Sunday night on Channel 13. Appearing with Harry Dean Stanton and Peter Himmelman (Dylan’s songwriter son-in-law), Dylan played recorder and harmonica on three songs, including “Hava Nigela.” Our favorite touch was the show-biz mega-mogul who came out to specially introduce the trio: Jerry Weintraub.
