2 Dinkins Aides, Accused of Racism, Quit

NEW YORK — Two black activists accused of making anti-Semitic comments have resigned from the mayoral campaign of Democratic candidate David N. Dinkins.
Jitu Weusi, who had headed African Americans for David Dinkins, and Robert (Sonny) Carson, a Dinkins volunteer, resigned Wednesday.
The Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith accused Weusi of writing “scores of anti-Semitic articles” and of having referred to Jews as “vile money-changers” and “Shylocks.”
In a letter to Dinkins’ campaign manager, Bill Lynch, Weusi said: “I harbor no anti-Semitic views now, nor have I in the past.” Weusi said he was stepping down so he would not “deflect New Yorkers from the real issues.”
The Anti-Defamation League said that Carson had made anti-Semitic remarks in 1967. Dinkins said that Carson had no official role in his organization.
