Incorrect Tax Bills Sent to 29,111

Due to an error in the office of the State Controller, tax bills sent to 29,111 property owners in the Hacienda La Puente School District are incorrect, authorities said.
The bills, for fiscal year 1989-90, are too high by $125.32 for every $100,000 of assessed value, Los Angeles County Supervisor Peter F. Schabarum said last week.
The $4.9-million error occurred because the state controller’s office overstated the property tax rate levied by the school district. The land involved had a total assessed value of $3.9 billion.
Affected tax bills bear the legend “Hacienda La Puente Unif Sch Dist” under the “voted indebtedness” category.
Revised tax bills should be in the mail by Nov. 10, Schabarum said.
