Ventura 28, Rio Mesa 27--Running back Danny Taylor rushed for 205 yards in 33 carries and scored three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score on a 30-yard run in the second quarter, to lead Ventura (4-4-1, 2-4) at Rio Mesa. All the scoring came in the first half.

Rio Mesa tailback Gordy Abellera cut Ventura’s lead to 28-27 with a 63-yard touchdown run with 4:19 left in the second quarter, but kicker Matt Zarit’s extra-point attempt to tie the score sailed wide to the left.

Quarterback Henry Wilson had touchdown runs of one yard and 20 yards for Rio Mesa (4-5, 2-4) as the Spartans were eliminated from the playoff picture.
