SANTA CRUZ — A moderate aftershock to the devastating Oct. 17 Bay Area earthquake shook Northern California on Sunday morning, but there were no reports of damage or injuries.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the 5:37 a.m. shaker registered magnitude 4.0. UC Berkeley placed the magnitude at 4.2.
The epicenter was in the Santa Cruz Mountains 9 miles northeast of here--the same area as the 7.1 earthquake Oct. 17. The Bay area has been struck by more than 3,000 aftershocks since the main temblor.
