One man was killed and a 17-year-old boy was critically wounded in what appeared to be a gang-related shooting outside a Pacoima apartment near a corner known as a gang hangout, authorities said today. No arrests had been made.
Timothy Walls, 20, of Pacoima was found dead in a courtyard at the complex at the corner of Van Nuys Boulevard and Borden Avenue about 9:30 p.m. Monday, Lt. Bernard D. Conine said. Walls had been shot in the upper torso, he said.
The other victim, a Pacoima boy with multiple gunshot wounds, was found lying in a parking lot behind the complex, Conine said. His name was withheld. The teen-ager was in critical condition at Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, he said.
Conine said that the shooting appeared to be gang-related and that both victims were believed to be members of the same gang. He said the corner is a spot where gang members often congregate. Detectives had not determined a specific motive for the shooting, he said.
