SAN CLEMENTE : City Master Design Is Workshop Topic
- Share via
Plans to create a master design for the city will be discussed Dec. 7 at a 7 p.m. public workshop.
The workshop will be at the San Clemente Senior Center, 242 Avenida del Mar.
Some of the ideas for master outlines came from a summer tour of the community by a group of 50 architects, who recommended that historic hubs in the 61-year-old city be preserved and tied into a planned theme.
The City Council responded this month by creating a 10-member Urban Design Committee to consider adding the recommendations to the city general plan. It also hired architect Gerald Gast to help draft the concept.
Themes proposed by the architects’ group include requiring uniform architectural schemes, reminiscent of the Mediterranean-style “Spanish Village by the Sea” envisioned by city founder Ole Hanson.
